Oliver Schürer
Oliver Schürer, Senior Scientist, Dipl.-Ing., Dr.techn., is an artist, researcher, curator, and author. He creates stage performances, and develops AI-system and robotic hardware, to put robotics and artificial intelligence under critical public discussion.
He conducted numerous interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research projects. He curated conferences, symposia, and exhibitions. He lectured and publishes internationally on AI and robotics in the arts, as well as broader technology, architecture theory, and media issues. Since 2009, he has been developing his art and theory of technology through techno-aesthetic experiments.
In 2014, he founded the transdisciplinary research group H.A.U.S. (Humanoids in Architecture and Urban Spaces). In this group, artists and researchers from the fields of architecture, AI research, architecture, human-robot interaction, media art, music, philosophy, and contemporary dance collaborate.
Until 2026, he was a Senior Scientist and Deputy Director at the Institute for Architectural Theory and Philosophy of Technology at the Vienna University of Technology. He is currently an Associate Researcher at OFAI (Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence).
