Robot-Dance and Lecture-Performance “AI – Alien Introspection” is improvising a text structured after the diagram of a machine-learning system. In this way, the performance immerses its visitors in cultural ideas that are intended to open up new ways of understanding AI. Will it be different to the decadency of the every day murmuring about decay and last days of human kind?

The H.A.U.S. performance is taking place at the international festival for contemporary art “Steirischer Herbst” at the media arts laboratory “esc“.

They have landed! Soon the aliens will be everywhere!
Contrary to what was expected, these aliens do not come from the vastness of outer space, but from the depths of human imagination: Artificial Intelligence – AI.
The lecture performance dives into the obscure bubble of AI stories to subject these aliens to an introspection. Different topics are taken up through improvisations in dance, music and speech/text. In doing so, the performance researches narrations, grammars, poetries and images in order to re-imagine AI.
Alien Introspection is a topic dear to H.A.U.S. long term research on alterity, technological otherness.

Sie sind gelandet! Bald sind die Aliens überall!
Anders als erwartet kommen diese Aliens nicht aus den Weiten des Weltalls, sondern aus den Tiefen menschlicher Imagination: Artificial Intelligence – AI – Künstliche Intelligenz.
Bereits der Name verweist auf die romantische Haltung die wir zu dieser Technologie einnehmen sollen (und oftmals auch wollen). Die Medien sind voll von schaurig-schönen Geschichten zu AI.
Dort sind mathematisches Gemunkel und die Empathie mit vielen Metaphern als Projektionsfläche vorbereitet. Auf der dürfen wir uns in allerlei obskuren Phantasmen verlieren.
Die Lecture-Performance taucht in die obskure Blase der AI Geschichten ein um diese Aliens einer Introspektion zu unterziehen. Durch Improvisationen in Tanz, Musik und Sprache werden andere Themen aufgebracht. So wird nach Narrationen, Grammatiken, Poesien und Bildern geforscht um AI neu zu imaginieren.
Dabei folgt die Performance der Struktur eines Machine Learning Systems.
