„Gegenseitiges Training – You are AI as much as AI is you!“ lecture at FU-Berlin, Dance Studies, by Oliver

Invited to lecture at Freie Universität Berlin by Institut für Theaterwissenschaft / Seminar für Tanzwissenschaft (Dance studies). Oliver’s lecture will be part of the lecture series “Aporias of Application: Artificial Intelligence in the Humanities and the Arts.” 

Lecture abstract

Through its artistic work, the transdisciplinary group H.A.U.S. critiques the influential contemporary technologies of robotics and AI. This approach does not rely on AI systems offered by industry, as that would limit the scope of the critique. Instead, H.A.U.S. develops AI systems using methods of arts-based research. The focus here is on artistic criteria, not economic ones. Oliver will present the AI developed by H.A.U.S., called the DANCR-tool—which was created based on the principles of contemporary dance—and its role in the performance *youAI*. DANCR enables real-time improvisation between a dancer and a humanoid robot.

Die transdisziplinäre Gruppe H.A.U.S. kritisiert mit ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit die zeitgenössisch einflussreichen Technologien von Robotik und KI. Dieser Ansatz arbeitet nicht mit KI’s die von der Industrie angeboten werden, denn so wäre nur eingeschränkte Kritik möglich. Sondern H.A.U.S. entwickeln KI’s mit Methoden des Arts-based research. Wichtig sind dabei nicht ökonomische, sondern künstlerische Kriterien. Unsere selbst entwickelte KI, namens DANCR-tool, die nach Prinzipien des zeitgenössischen Tanzes entwickelt wurde und deren Rolle in der Performance youAI werden vorgestellt. DANCR ermöglicht improvisation zwischen einer Tanzperson und einem humanoiden Roboter in Echtzeit.
