Publication “Abstraction And The Allegorizing Of Fantasies” with Fonds Darstellende Künste
Oliver got invited to reflect on the Topic of the programe “Autonom” by Fonds Darstellende Künste:
Abstract: In public perception, artificial intelligences (AIs) are primarily considered to be mathematical and technological wonders or examples of enormous quantitative performances. However, for artistic activities, it is more interesting to work on the transformation of existing and formation of new cultural contexts as well as the powers of culturalization that unfold in these processes.
The technologies of robotics and AI form two kinds of allegories that – not coincidentally – correspond to the dualistic ideas of body and spirit as separate entities; in fact, they reference their age-old history. When we, in the experiment of a performance, abstract these illustrations into terms, then we maintain the way they were made abstract. By transforming terms and creating new ones in addition, we culturalize the technologies – and thus ourselves. Such experimental acts of abduction allow abstraction and allegory to be made generative as mutually opposed processes – and to be performance.
