Architecture faces the challenge of developing concepts for things that control themselves as if they were alive. But we have no references for this in our dualistic Western culture. Thus, the lecture will present projects from a historical perspective in which the obsession with automatisms led to original or groundbreaking architectural ideas – such as Le Corbusier’s shadow facades. These obsessions make accessible new ways of meeting today’s challenges: Research in social robotics and social artificial intelligence in architecture, using the example of the transdisciplinary research group H.A.U.S

Eva-Maria Kraft, Thomas A. New technologies, such as artificial intelligence and robotics, question the capabilities of our bodies by imitating both, human thinking and sensuality. In the past, industrialisation has made our strength and pace obsolete. Today, our intelligence and our dexterity seem to become obsolete. Again, we have to reinvent our existence as bodies – in contrast to the machines we have invented. What are we capable of? How do we want to become?

This H.A.U.S. Performance discusses the intimate vis-a-vis of very different bodies in the human-machine continuum by means of improvisation.
